Short answer: Uplisting’s direct booking engine can connect to your own website in four ways: use Uplisting’s hosted site (optionally on your own domain), link to your booking pages from your website, embed Uplisting’s booking widget, or build a custom site on the Uplisting API. For SEO, keep your content on your main domain and let Uplisting handle checkout on a booking subdomain.
Uplisting’s direct booking engine takes care of the hard parts of a direct booking: checkout, payments, ID verification and rental agreements. What it doesn’t do is replace a proper marketing website. Here’s how to combine the two.
The four ways to connect
- Uplisting’s hosted site. Use the direct booking site on Uplisting’s domain or your own custom domain. Quickest, least flexible.
- Links from your website. Your own website handles design and content; “Book now” buttons send guests to the matching Uplisting booking page.
- The booking widget. Guests choose dates on your website, then continue to your Uplisting booking page to confirm.
- The Uplisting API. A developer builds a fully custom site that shows live prices and availability. Most flexible, highest effort.
The setup I recommend for most managers
- yourdomain.com is a WordPress site with your property pages, area guides and blog.
- book.yourdomain.com runs the Uplisting booking engine for checkout.
- Property pages include the booking widget or a clear “Check availability” button linking to the matching booking page.
Guests stay on your brand from first click to confirmation, and search engines see one clear site for content.
Keeping SEO in one place
A booking subdomain doesn’t hurt SEO if you’re deliberate about it:
- Content lives on the main domain. Every property description, amenity list and FAQ belongs on your WordPress pages.
- Booking pages stay out of the index where possible, so Google doesn’t treat checkout pages as thin content competing with your property pages.
- Internal links run from every property page to its booking page, and from guides to properties.
- Analytics covers both. Set up tracking across the website and the booking subdomain so you can see which pages lead to bookings.
What goes on each property page
- A heading with the property name and location.
- Key facts in the first paragraph: bedrooms, sleeps, standout features.
- Sections for the space, amenities, location and house rules.
- Photos with descriptive alt text.
- FAQs and VacationRental schema.
- The booking widget or button, above the fold on mobile.
Common mistakes
- Using only the Uplisting booking site, with no content pages to rank.
- Pointing the main domain at the booking engine and losing the chance to publish guides.
- Forgetting to test the whole journey on a phone, from Google result to confirmation email.
